Mario Götze

Going down a different route with this one - with Paco Alcacer out injured with an achilles irritation, Götze is in prime position to take over as the central striker at Dortmund. Look for Götze to be a solid IPD hold (30 day hold).

(1) Alcacer Injury

Paco Alcacer has been the main man for Dortmund this season, and has been clinical in front of goal, being involved in 6 goals (5 goals, 1 assist) in just six appearances. This form has, understandably, kept Götze out of the starting side. However, with Alcacer now out, and confirmed out for today's game against Freiburg, the sage is set for Götze. We can expect them to turn to him as he has made appearances this season, 3 in the league, but more importantly played 72 minutes in his last showing, grabbing a goal to boot against Werder Bremen. After a rocky start to the campaign last season - he found his form after January, involving himself in 10 goals through 12 starts.

With Dortmund looking to pressure the top 7 in the league, we can expect them to return to their tried and tested man in front of goal.

(2) Five Fixtures

Investing in Götze today seems him eligible for six fixtures' four Bundesliga and a Champions League game against Inter. Whilst Alcacer could well be back in that time, a good showing from Götze will put him in good stead to feature in all of them, with a strong possibility of starting should Alcacer remain out for a while.

It is also worth pointing out that the Dortmund fixture kicks off relatively early - 14:30 - so an early goal or strong start for Dortmund and/or Götze will see people take more notice, as there are only five other PB fixtures playing at 14:30 or earlier.

(3) Return on Investment

Sitting at just 70p, Götze represents the potential for a strong return on your investment for IPD's. If he involves himself in two goals over the next five fixtures, that will see him secure 3% return on your investment, not factoring in his inevitable price rise that will come with a goal or strong PB score. However, my strategy here is not to take the dividends, but to get out on the hype of the goal. Götze saw a 9p rise when he scored against Werder Bremen, which represents 13% of your investment.

Whether he scores today or not, the longer Alcacer keeps missing games due to his achilles, the better it is for Götze share holders. Look for him to take advantage of the opportunity today and get on before the inevitable rise.

I'm on for 100 shares.
